Ecotourism is a growing sector of the Tourism industry and we are grateful to the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF) for funding the development, printing and distribution of 50 000 copies of this EnviroTeach to schools, nationwide. The NLDTF's commitment to, and support of, environmental education in South Africa, through the provision of a curriculum-linked resource for educators, is much appreciated.

There are many facets to ecotourism as well as there being many role-players. In the South African context, these roleplayers include suppliers, intermediate support services, marketing agencies, industry associations, auxiliary services, policy makers, attraction sector and the tourists themselves. They have to "own" the whole or a significant portion of the ecotourism venture/initiative/project, thereby benefitting financially. This publication begins to explore all of these aspects, whilst offering educators relevant and appropriate activities for learners, accompanied by assessment ideas.
